About
Carol - A Canadian Painter
| "I
am very excited with my paintings of the last few months,
as the infinite variety of subjects in my world continue
to inspire. Recently, I have been more focused and have
concentrated on two main themes: the landscape, and a theme
of shelter (cottages, sheds, back yards).
"Though I love to paint the landscape, in what is
usually an 'abstract impressionist' style, these
days I am stopped in my tracks by what I encounter on
walks down back alleys, where the buildings have had time
to settle into broad shapes, line, weathered color and
texture, with the contrast of a shock of color, as in
a bright plastic pail or tarp. These relationships, represented
simply and directly, are what attract the viewer even
before they can identify the subject matter of my paintings.
"I am inspired by the thought of pursuing this theme
for the next few months - of course, never denying the
call to paint flowers, landscapes, and abstracts when
the spirit moves me!"

Carol
Lopez is a Canadian painter based in Vancouver BC. She was born
in Saskatchewan and has lived in other parts of Canada and in the
West Indies. She has also traveled extensively, and these experiences
are reflected in the wide range of her oil, acrylic, and watercolor
paintings. Carol's love of travel and adventure have led her to
positions as the artist-in-residence at Kalani Honua, an arts center
in Hawaii, and on the Universe Explorer, a "floating university"
cruise ship. During these years, Carol was also working as a part
time teacher. She has had many years experience teaching painting
in public schools and continuing education programs. Carol's passion
for self-expression is evident in her still life, landscape and
abstract paintings and collages. Carol's artwork has been exhibited
throughout Greater Vancouver in public and private galleries, and
is in collections across Canada, the USA, and Europe.
